About Travis Tritt
Travis Tritt, a native of Marietta, Georgia, is a Grammy award-winning American country music artist and occasional actor.
Starting with the debut single release of “Country Club” in 1989, Travis Tritt has charted more than thirty singles on the U.S. Billboard charts, including five Number Ones. His first and third albums–1989’s Country Club and
T-R-O-U-B-L-E–have each achieved platinum certification by the RIAA, while his albums It’s All About to Change (1991), Greatest Hits: From the Beginning (1995) have each achieved gold status. His most recent album, The Storm, was released in 2007 on Category 5 Records. “You Never Take Me Dancing,” the first single from The Storm, opens with Tritt’s bluesy moans and a seductive acoustic slide guitar, before settling into the funkiest groove this side of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” The song was written by Richard Marx, who also collaborated with Tritt on “Doesn’t the Good Outweigh the Bad,” a rollicking relationship song that grew out of Tritt and his wife’s experience building a new house. “You know how they say that if your marriage can survive building a house it can survive anything?” Tritt asks, laughing. “That is absolutely a fact.”
Tritt has also received two Grammy Awards in his musical career, both awards for Best Country Vocal Collaboration: in 1992 for “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin'”, a duet with Marty Stuart, and again in 1998 for “Same Old Train,” a collaboration of more than ten country music artists. In addition, he has received three awards from the Country Music Association, and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Tritt was also honored with his inclusion in one of the “show bands,” the “Louisiana Gator Boys,” appearing in the movie Blues Brothers 2000.
About The Outlaws
The Outlaws were born to the blue-collar port city of Tampa, Florida in the early 1970’s. The band was made up of Hughie Thomasson, Henry Paul, Monte Yoho, and Frank O’Keefe. At Hughie’s urging, Billy Jones moved back to Tampa from Boulder, Colorado in1972 to complete the original five-piece lineup.
Joining the likes of Tom Petty and other regional acts at the time, The Outlaws quickly became a favorite of the Tampa college crowd. With the help of newly recruited manager Charlie Brusco, the band set its sights on taking the show on the road. Earning a reputation as a great live band, they lit up the clubs from Macon to Nashville and honky-tonks throughout the southeast.
The Outlaws’ debut album rode the momentum of AOR classic “Green Grass and High Tides” to #13 on Billboard’s Hot 100. With substantial success in the live concert arena and on the strength of repeated chart-topping records, The Outlaws established themselves as premiere players in the phenomenon that came to be known as Southern Rock.
Today, the Outlaws are at the threshold of a new era. Along with original singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul and original drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho, the Outlaws feature Chris Anderson, Billy Crain, Randy Threet, and Jon Coleman. Through sheer determination and commitment to the legacy of this great band, the most recent line-up of The Outlaws sets its sights on its musical future, while remaining true to the unique character of The Outlaws past.
About Blackberry Smoke
Atlanta based Blackberry Smoke continues to grow into the premiere Southern Rock band of America. The band includes Charlie Starr on vocals and guitar; Paul Jackson on guitar and vocals; Richard Turner on bass and vocals; and Brit Turner on drums. Over the last 12 months, they have shared the stage with ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shooter Jennings, Cross Canadian Ragweed and countless others. The band has recently finished recording their sophomore effort “Little Piece Of Dixie” with legendary producer Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts) and engineer Justin Niebank.
Blackberry Smoke’s creative approach remains a collaborative one. “Sometimes I’ll come in with a basic idea, just play some chords and a melody on an acoustic and a song will grow from that,” Starr explains. “But most of the time I’ll write with Paul – we live within 15 minutes of each other – or we’ll be in rehearsal and just start jamming on something and magic will happen.”
The band members have a similarly easygoing, give-and-take personal rapport. Charlie says, “we’re like a little family, like four brothers. We all just get along really well. We’ve all been in cover bands, and in every cover band there’s somebody ya hate. We could never stay on the road for 40 days if we weren’t laughing and having a good time. All our dads were in the service and they taught us respect for other people.”
During their travels, the Blackberry Smoke boys have headlined all over the U.S. and opened for a slew of rock acts. They’ve toured with Jackyl – Jackyl’s Jesse James Dupree produced “Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime” – and have even shared the stage with Blackfoot, 38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd, at Dallas’ Smirnoff Music Centre (capacity: 20,000). The band credits their name from another likeminded artist, former Black Crowes singer-songwriter Chris Robinson.
